Our
Story
Cooinda has a rich history, enshrined in community values and service. With the land at 54 Waggon Rd Victor Harbor bequest to the Association in 1936, basic site infrastructure was soon developed.
The first asset to be built was the Main Hall in 1938 and served as a homestead for a variety of on-site activities. This included philanthropic camps for children experiencing social and welfare disadvantage.

As investment allowed, the site was fully developed with basic Bunkhouses the next to be built in the mid 1950’s. Continuous development, and improvement has taken place throughout the decades, with a TAFE carpentry project realising the most ambitious improvement throughout the 1980’s. This saw new bunkhouses (known as Bunkhouse 4, 5 and 6) built and the creation of the commercial camp site was realised.

The commercial campsite has been a place of magic, inspiration and memories for many students and teachers across a number of generations.

Such is the nature of camps, for many of us, even well past our education years, we recall our camp experiences as being highlights of our time spent at school.
It is with this philosophy in mind that the current management team have set out to restore and rejuvenate the site, now known as Cooinda, to that of a premium camp and catering service provider.

School, Social, Community, Church, Sport and Family groups now book their premium places with Cooinda, often 12-24 months in advance.
